According to the UNAIDS 2008 report on the Global AIDS epidemic, Cameroon with a population of about 18,060,382 inhabitant has an estimated 500,000 people living with HIV/ AIDS .Much need to be done espercially among youths within the age range of 30-35years considering the fact that this is the range you will find the higest victims . Reason why we had to start our three days campaign in College of Hope situated in the Bepanda neigbourhood of the Douala City. Friday 28th December at College of Hope At College of Hope we were recieved by the school authorities and the students .The Association,its members and its objectives were first presented to the students by Ayuk Jessy the Communication Assistant Mrs Ayuk Jessy Presenting the Association to students Later on a drama was performed by members of Good Link Foundation on the theme "yes i can wait".This was to emphasized on the importance on students to wait until when they are more responsible and macture enough before getting into sexual practices thus Total Abstinence. Apart from being contaminated with HIV/AIDS, unwanted pregnancy was another disanvantegious factor that could hinder their Education and Future.Those that were still virgin were higly encouraged to remain so until marriage, while those that were not could still decide to stop the practice and start what is call second virginity. Nevertheless the usage of condoms was propose to those students who were already sexually active and found it difficult to stop. 29th December 2008 General Sensitization and Free HIV/AIDS Testings A group of youths listening attentively as we passed out the message on measures to use so to avoid HIV/AIDS The 29th December was the second day of our campaign.This was marked by a door to door campaign in the Makepe maturite Community.Public places such as refresment spots were touched.This was accompanied with free distribution of condoms and brochules bearing informations on the danger and the preventive meaures on HIV/AIDS.A loud speaker was use to invite the entire population for a free , anonymous HIV/AIDS Tests that took place thesame day later on. A lady doing the free HIV/AIDS Test Inorder to ensured proper and efficient Test results we invited our partners AIDSCARE LINK and Medical officials from the Douala General Hospital.This was led by Dr Kwane Samuel who works for the AIDS department at the Douala General Hospital. In general 65 people were tested out of which 41 were women,10 men and 14 were youths.Gifts such as tee-shirts were given out to those who did the test and Dr Kwane encouraged every person who did the test to come back for their results which was accompanied by a counselling from Dr Kwane himself.A local health district was chosen for the counselling and issuing of the results. It was a wonderful and successful event as the head of the Makepe Maturite community thank Members of Good Link Foundation for such initiative.He explained to us how it was the very first time such action is taken place in his Community.Three days later Dr Kwane Samuel came back for the results and 15 persons reported present and went back with their results. 30th December 2008 Conference with Society of Women and Aids in Africa On this date, still in the Makepe Maturite Community we had to organised a conference in order to outlight the essential meaning of HIV/AIDS and its effects, how to leave with people affected and infected with the virus.On this occasion we invited the cordinator of the non governmental organistaion "Society of Women and Aids in Africa. Mr Pascal KAMCHOUNG and his assistant Mrs Beatrice NANA WANJI . A presentation of Good Link Foundation and words of appreciation to the invities was voice out by Achiri Tabifor Emile the President and Founder of Good Link Foundation.This was follow by the Cordinator of Society of Women and Aids in Africa(SWAA) as he took the floor to explained the evolution of the virus in the human blood system. On the watchfull eyes of the invities, pictures were showned on the different evolution stages of the virus and its effects in the human body and system .Its should be noted that this demostration was accompanied with a video projection.Inaddition we had life testimonies images from people who are affected and are today married with children.Later on Mrs Beatrice Wanji who is a nurse demostrated on how to use both male and female condoms.It was very interesting as many people were surprised to see a female condom not to talk of it usage.The conference brought together all the different classes of the Makepe Maturite Community.
